I don't write pop music
I never had one pop song
most of my thoughts are more than
three minutes long
I think I'll have to sell out
I guess it couldn't be wrong
to write pop music
maybe have a couple of pop songs

I could write how much I love you
never let you go
crap like "we could always be together"
to watch the royalties grow
I could sing like Michael Bolton
when I make that video
kids could use it as a prom theme
yeah, you never know

or, I could really let come angst show
I've been working on my pout
and how I really am this angry
how my life turned out
how I hate being a pop star
with all my money and clout
yeah, I've got a lot of anger
I've got to let it out

Couldn't you hear me on the radio
my mom would be so proud
between madonna and the Spice girls
Ma could crank it up loud
but if you hate me in the morning
then hey, get off of my cloud
I'm writing pop music,
and I make my mother proud
