Days Like These

days like these, a touch of autumn with the smell of weeds in the air

days like these, September used to fill me with dispair

I've been beaten down by summer, but now there's something in the air

makes me sit up a little taller in my chair

days like these, you'd think that they might happen all the time

days like these, they're rare enough to trigger something in my mind

the leaves on the trees are lookin' more than a little tired

you look and you can see them glow with a distant fire

days like these remind us that nothing ever lasts

the finer things in my life are over way too fast

but everything's a circle--we come around and then

days like these will return to us again

days like these, the clouds still look like summer clouds

days like these, when the black birds start to form those flying crowds

and the rain is getting colder, and the sun is oging down

every night a little sooner, in shades of gray and brown
